In this video, M. R. Hari speaks about the urgent need for river bank conservation. The ideal time for it is between December and May before the rains set in and bring floods with it. However, the usual practice of planting bamboo for the purpose should be stopped. As its roots do not go deep, they cannot prevent soil erosion. The plants themselves cannot remain standing when the strong flood waters flow. Therefore, one should choose tree like large-flowered bay tree, Java olive tree, incha Acacia caesia wild and shrubs like the screw pine.
