In this video, M. R. Hari introduces Mr Biju from Cherai who has utilized his 20-cent plot so scientifically that he is able to raise enough vegetables and fish, with the help of aquaponics, to sustain his family throughout the year. Mr Biju has creatively overcome several challenges – low-lying area with threat of water-logging, beach sand, and so on – and grown elephant yam, other vegetable plants, grapes and strawberries through various means like sacks, trays and double-layered nets mounted on trellises. He has also made arrangements to conserve all the rain water that falls on his plot. M. R. Hari argues that Mr Biju’s farming techniques offer many excellent models worth following.
