In this video, M. R. Hari sketches how he was drawn to the seasonal rhythms of Nature and the habits of birds and small creatures, while roaming in the garden plot where his mother’s ancestral house stood. Looking back on his childhood, Hari is convinced that in following the rituals and traditions that accompanied festivals, children were unconsciously led by their elders into creating a database about the various indigenous plants, their features, usefulness and importance. This may have played a pivotal role in drawing him into experimenting with many afforestation measures in his adulthood.
