As you know, June 5 is World Environment Day. In connection with it, we are launching a poster for the propagation of the Miyawaki Model of Afforestation. All of you are aware of the uniqueness of the Miyawaki Model – it is the only one that allows us to see a forest grow and mature within our own lifetime. Within merely three years, the saplings shoot up to 30 feet in height. Within 15 years, the plants and trees exhibit excellent growth. Within 30 years, the Miyawaki forest matures as much as it would take a natural forest 100 years to grow. In other words, in a span of 15 years, we will be able to see the results of our labour. The Miyawaki Method can be implemented in the smallest of spaces. It is the propagation of this Model, developed by Prof. Miyawaki, that we wish to do through the launching of the poster. This poster was designed by Ms Abhijatha Santhosh, the daughter of Santhosh and Bijumol, and native of Chembu panchayat in Vaikom. She is an eleventh standard student of Udayamperur School. She is a smart girl who has overcome cerebral palsy and honed her artistic skills. We have great pleasure in presenting before you the poster made by Ms Abhijatha. It carries a portrait of Prof. Miyawaki and pictures of various Miyawaki forests. I request you to share it with the maximum number of people.
