In this video, M. R. Hari explains how in the course of road-expansion hillslopes are invariably cut in a sheer, vertical fashion, and granite walls erected to retain them. A more Nature-friendly and sustainable alternative lies in sloping the cut, erecting short bamboo-fences at one-metre intervals, fill the intervening spaces with potting mixture, and planting saplings following the Miyawaki Model. The same method can be followed when houses are constructed near hilly areas so that they do not look trapped inside a laterite fort but appear aesthetically nestling in a tree alcove.
