Watch the growth of our first Miyawaki forest planted at Puliyarakonam in Thiruvananthapuram Kerala. Puliyarakonam was our very first attempt at implementing the Miyawaki method of afforestation. The basic step for creating any cultivated forest is to prepare the site for planting. The terrain was mainly rocky and was part of a downward slope. Therefore the area had to be cleared using bulldozers. The next big challenge was finding a solution to the problem of water scarcity because of the natural slope of the land. Strategically placed logs of wood helped impede the flow of rain water and retain it to a considerable extent. Micro-irrigation practices had to be implemented to ensure that each of our saplings was well hydrated.
