In this video, M. R. Hari talks about how certain trees are hardy, and can withstand hostile environments. This fact should incentivize us to grow and protect indigenous varieties of plants and trees in our own compounds. The fear that trees close to our houses and buildings will fall and destroy the structures or that their roots will weaken our foundation is unfounded. The trick lies in pruning them well. If every house in every panchayat decides to protect a couple of indigenous trees in their plots, many fast-vanishing varieties can be brought back from extinction.
