In this video, M. R. Hari introduces Sri K. G. Ramesh, a Vanamitra Award winner, who is so passionate about plants and trees that he has a medicinal forest close to his house. He has a collection of about 1,500 varieties in his own garden plot that covers nearly one-and-a-half acres. Sri Ramesh uses no chemical fertilizers or pesticides, allows dry leaves and twigs to remain on the ground to function as mulch, and does not burn them. He is not a trained botanist but he consults experts, and tries to label all the plants and trees in his plot. His live-and-let-live policy with regard to small creatures, including snakes, in his medicinal forest has caused him no harm, and the trees planted close to his house have posed no threat to the building.
